Many of the new computer applications are distributed,
requiring support for management of distributed data. However, the
requirements of these applications are considerably di rent from those
applications for which much of the existing technology was developed.
Furthermore, there are signi ant changes in the underlying
technologies on which these systems are built. In this paper, the
changes in requirements and technologies are reviewed and their impact
on next generation distributed database systems are discussed. |
