In this presentation, we introduce various research works in the
Data Systems Lab at the University of Central Florida. The presentation
consists of three parts: (1) data management techniques, (2) data
communication
techniques, and (3) their applications.
1. Data Management
We discuss techniques for managing multimedia, location, and sensor data.
More specifically, we present
1) a query management technique to significantly reduce
the expensive costs of location update and server computation
in processing continuous spatial range monitoring queries,
2) iSEE - an Internet Sensor Exploration Environment for finding
gap in image retrieval, and
3) a Query Decomposition method to effectively address the
semantic gap in image retrieval,
4) 2PSM - a 2-Phase Service Model for browsing and searching video
data
2. Data Communications
We present various communication strategies to address the scalability
issues
in video-on-demand applications; and a robust communication method, called
Connectionless Approach (CLA), to cop with the high mobility in wireless
ad hoc networks.
3. Applications
Finally, we end this talk with two applications: (1) a real-time traffic
evacuation management system being developed for the State of Florida; and
(2) a computer-aided diagnosis system for spine lumbar stenosis. |
